6 points to remember before going to the University
It’s that time of the year when the wait for results comes to an end and the next phase of responding to offers begins! The entire experience of finalising colleges and getting ready to go to the university can be super exciting but also stressful and full of anxiety. Instances of constantly refreshing your mailbox, checking the university’s portal, going to the different websites back and forth become a norm during the admissions season. Now, for most of you, this will be the first time away from home. And let’s admit it- it is a big deal! You will keep hearing from everyone around you that these three-four years are going to be some of the best years of your life. Not only will the journey make you more independent, but also responsible for your actions. But on a more lighter note, you’re not going to Mars. Life will not be extremely different from what it is now, except the fact that you will not have your parents and “significant others” to turn to for advice or even argue. While we cannot obviously compensate for the absence of “Ghar ka khaana” and “Papa ki fatkaar”, we at University Connection would like to make things a bit easier for you! So, here we are, dealing with the ultimate question- What all do I carry to the university? Here’s a small checklist that we dug out for all you packers so that you do not find yourself lost. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, but just a go-to page of the necessities: Important documents such as the passport, student visa, required proof of identity, letter of acceptance/enrollment, student ID card, flight tickets, residence permit, visa, copies of medical reports, academic certificates, passport-sized photographs etc.
- Clothing items are usually a no-brainer. For all seasons and all occasions, keep everything that you’re fond of and everything that you might need.
Electrical appliances including laptop, USB cables, earphones, charger, speakers (to keep you sane).
Academic supplies like your favourite books, diaries, journals, personal organizers. Even though the university will provide the necessary stationery, do not be tempted to splurge all the money on it
Toiletries like comb, brush, soap, glasses, medications, towel, toilet paper (you don’t want to be stuck without any TP!)
- Your room will be your new home. Momentoes and items of personal significance will simply help you settle in. However, it won’t include your car, furniture, plants or pets.
